Should you be asking yourself: "Should we be embarking on a campaign now?" You need to ask yourself the following questions:
- Is there a long-range plan?
- Is there a good donor base?
- Is there an adequate staff and equipment?
- Is there a list of potential major donors?
- Is your board involved and are they informed members?
Did you realize that capital campaigns are not just for building or renovating a building? Capital campaigns can also be for endowments, programs and specific projects. What makes a capital campaign unique is that it is a campaign with a specific financial goal that has a direct focus and a set end date.
There are five important steps to ensuring a successful capital campaign:
- Feasibility study—this will secure a solid case statement to be used on all presentations.
- Campaign leadership—where are they, who are they and will they support us?
- Gift Table—what are the financial needs of the project? Do all donations need to be received in one year? Can we accept pledges? How long should a pledge be for? Why?
- Identification and Solicitation—Who should we ask? Who will make the "ask"? Who will train the volunteer solicitators? When you work with ejIMPACT you will have the edge - because an ejIMPACT professional will join your volunteer on any and all of the major gift presentations. This will support the training of the volunteer and will make the "ask" easier for the volunteer.
- Wrap-Up—Everything is done. Is it? Do we ever go back to any of the major donors? When? For what? How?
